Emberfall Saga

Emberfall Saga is the kind of RPG that eats your weekend. You build a party of misfits, each with their own quirks and grudges, and the writing gives them enough personality that you start caring who lives and who leaves.

Combat is turn-based but snappy, with a positioning system that rewards planning. The skill trees branch far enough that two players can end up with very different fighters. We especially liked how side quests loop back into the main story instead of feeling like filler.

It asks for commitment, and the mid-game slows down a touch, but the payoff in the final chapters is worth pushing through.
